Curtin & Heefner LLP’s Appellate Section represents clients in all stages of appeals, from Zoning Hearing Board and Office of Open Records appeals to complex litigation pending before the United States Supreme Court. We handle appeals in a wide range of legal matters, including bankruptcy matters, civil litigation, criminal cases, elections, environmental and land use appeals, family law, labor and employment matters, and orphan’s court cases.
In addition to handling all aspects of appeals, our appellate lawyers are called upon to assist trial counsel during motions practice and courtroom hearings to help preserve issues and to establish a record that will be necessary for consideration of the case on appeal. We are available to serve as lead appellate counsel or as co-counsel to assist attorneys who have handled earlier stages of the litigation.
The members of our Appellate Section are not only accomplished appeals lawyers, they are also exceptional trial lawyers. They are equally comfortable challenging and defending judgments because they understand how records are developed at every stage of the proceedings. Our team includes former prosecutors and career litigators who have represented plaintiffs, criminal and civil defendants, and intervenors and amicus curiae in a wide variety of matters. Our attorneys have litigated matters on appeal before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, the Pennsylvania Superior Court, the United States Air Force Court of Military Review and trial courts and administrate agencies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
