Profile
Tom focuses his practice on complex insurance coverage issues and the defense of insurance companies in lawsuits involving breach of contract and bad faith claims, as well as general liability defense of individuals and corporate entities. He also has been extensively involved in the defense of bodily injury and medical malpractice cases.
Tom works in the Insurance and Litigation Sections and has been called upon on numerous occasions to use his litigation and personal injury experience to assist his colleagues in personal injury cases on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. He also defends carriers in uninsured/underinsured motorist cases.
Tom has worked tirelessly throughout his career on behalf of insurance carrier clients and their insureds, and his practice has at various times required him to consult on issues across the country. Some of those issues have resulted in Tom’s insurance carrier clients requesting that he represent them in litigation far outside of his backyard. He has appeared pro hac vice in state and federal courts in Florida, Texas, Illinois, California, and Michigan, and he has investigated property losses occurring as far away as Alaska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Maryland and interviewed or deposed witnesses in all of these states, in addition to Arkansas, Georgia, and Virginia.
Tom is the President of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance, a national organization of nearly 50,000 insurance and legal professionals committed to furthering the highest standards of claims and litigation management. He also is the Vice President of the Philadelphia Loss Conference (PLC), a well-respected local non-profit organization which aims to educate and facilitate interactions between insurance company personnel, independent adjusters, defense counsel, and others involved in the adjustment of insurance claims and litigation resulting therefrom. Tom is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and recently was appointed to the Steering Committee for DRI’s Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute.
Tom grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs and has spent his entire life in and around the city. He enjoys spending time with his better half, Jen, and their five children in Southampton, PA and is an avid Philadelphia and Penn State sports fan.
