Profile

Kyong Ha Growney serves as Partner and Chair of the Employment & Labor Law Section.

Ms. Growney focuses her practice on employment, labor, employee benefits, and school law issues. She represents employers and management in federal and state court litigation proceedings and before federal, state, and local administrative agencies, including the Employment Opportunity Commission, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the United States Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board, the Public Employee Labor Relations Board, and the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Commission.

Ms. Growney represents public and private sector employers and serves as labor counsel and special counsel to municipalities. She represents these clients in contract negotiations, unfair labor charges, grievances, and arbitrations. She counsels private and public sector and non-profit clients on all labor, employment, and employee benefits related matters, including employee discipline, hiring and firing decisions, leave issues under the Family Medical Leave Act and the American with Disabilities Act, labor relations, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenants, and in the creation or revision of employee policies and handbooks. She conducts seminars on federal and state labor, employment, and employee benefit laws, including the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the National Labor Standards Act and trainings on sexual harassment, hiring and firing, and leave issues.

Ms. Growney also counsels public and private schools on all aspects of education law, including student discipline, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, physical and psychological disabilities, drugs and alcohol, and sexual harassment. She assists educational institutions with issues of strategic planning, curricular revision, staff and faculty reorganization and reduction-in-force, and crisis management. She drafts and revises student handbooks, faculty handbooks, school policy manuals, crisis manuals, releases, and school forms to comply with state and federal laws. She provides training on sexual harassment and other school related matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Growney was associated with a large Philadelphia law firm, where she provided consulting and litigation services to employers and management in all aspects of employment and labor law. Ms. Growney also worked as an attorney-advisor to District Chief Judge Robert D. Kaplan of the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Administrative Law Judges prior to her work in the private sector.

Ms. Growney served as an editor of the Villanova Environmental Law Journal.

Ms. Growney has been recognized as a Pennsylvania Rising Star Lawyer and Super Lawyer through a peer-review process as published by Philadelphia Magazine and selected as a Pennsylvania Lawyer on the Fast Track by The Legal Intelligencer.

In her free time, Kyong enjoys reading, traveling, and visiting her two daughters at college. She was raised in New Jersey but currently resides in Bucks County, PA with her husband.
